The Minder

48 x 36 x 2 inches
acrylic and gesso on heavy duty cotton canvas

Many colored rays, petals, wings in transparent washes and muted tones extend outward from a central plane. Faux 3-D, gold stripes, pipes, and cubes hint at a flow and an alchemy at work. A gauzy cross sits at the bottom of the picture, an emblem of a nurse or minder. A perfect translucent pink circle symbolizes healing power emanating. The overall form is feminine and almost dress-like. The retro-feel textured areas are made from pulling paint across the heavy duty gessoed cotton canvas. The background is messy with brushwork in nudes and gesso.

A graphic, bold, geometric explosion of color and form. Translucent washes and layering invoke self-illumined stained glass. Branching outward, rhythmic patterns of rays and leaf-like shapes reach upward. Parts of the composition are mirrored, reflecting a complex faux symmetry that keeps the piece balanced. A deep black bar and square anchor the myriad of hues.
